Characteristics

Small shrub, with mostly short spreading flowering branches; twigs subterete to slightly quadrangular, with short spreading hairs, glabrescent, or sometimes almost glabrous.. Leaves smaller towards the base of flowering branchlets, grading to bud-scales; petiole 0–1.5 mm. long, puberulous in groove; lamina thin, elliptic-lanceolate to ovate-elliptic (smallest ones ovate to circular), 1–3.5 cm. long, 0.7–1.8 cm. wide, obtuse at the apex, cuneate or rounded at the base, with small hairs on youngest, soon glabrescent, with 3–5 pairs of lateral nerves, lower 1–2 pairs strongly ascending.. Flowers 2–6 per umbel; peduncle and pedicels 1.5–3 mm. long, glabrous or nearly so; bract ovate-triangular from a shallow cup, 1.5–2 mm. long, puberulous, ciliate.. Receptacle 0.8–1 mm. long, as broad as tall.. Calyx 0.3–0.5 mm. long, ciliolate.. Corolla 1.8–2.6 cm. long, yellow, with a touch of red at vents; buds 4-angular, slightly swollen at the base, bossed over vents, slightly wrinkled above, with a slight apical swelling 6–9 mm. long, apiculate; tube 4–6 mm. long, with V-slit extending nearly to base, minutely papillate along sutures; lobes reflexed to revolute, linear, slightly dilated at the base.. Stamen-filaments orange, tightly coiled, dilated, with minute papillae at the very base; tooth 1 mm. long; anthers 5.5–6.5 mm. long.. Berry obovoid, 6 mm. long, 4 mm. in diameter.
