Characteristics

Small shrub to 45 cm. or so, with numerous rather short (7–20 cm.) straight obliquely spreading flowering branchlets; twigs slightly compressed, pale, glabrous, markedly lenticellate.. Petiole 0–3 mm. long; lamina chartaceous, yellow-green, lanceolate to narrowly elliptic or ovate-lanceolate, 1.5–6.5 cm. long, 0.8–2.5 cm. wide, attenuate to slightly acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrous, with 3–6 pairs of lateral nerves, the basal pair ascending to middle or above.. Flowers 2–6(–8) per umbel; peduncle 0.5–2 mm. long; pedicels 1.5–3 mm. long; bract bluntly triangular from a shallow cup, 1–1.5 mm. long, ciliolate.. Receptacle 0.8–1 mm. long.. Calyx 0.2–0.3 mm. long, ciliolate.. Corolla 9–12 mm. long, yellow, orange towards tip, with blackish streaks at vents; buds slightly 4-angular, only slightly inflated towards the base and apex; tube 3–5 mm. long, with V-slit extending almost to base, smooth inside (minute papillae only on edges of sutures); lobes erect, linear, only slightly broadened upwards, 6–7 mm. long.. Filaments red, tightly coiled; tooth 0.2–0.5 mm. long, inserted ± that distance below anther; anthers 2–3 mm. long.. Berry red to pinkish purple, obovoid, 8 mm. long, 4 mm. in diameter.
