Perennials. Flowering culms 12–60 cm high. Leaves pubescent to pilose with simple and glandular hairs; blade disarticulating, involute, finely acuminate or acute. Panicles linear, contracted, spiciform, longer than wide, (3–) 4.5–10 cm long, 1 cm wide (including awns). Spikelets with 4 florets (1 bisexual). Glumes unequal, usually acuminate or obtuse, scaberulous, pubescent or pilose (with simple and glandular hairs); lower glume 4–7.4 mm long, (6–) 9–11-nerved; upper glume 3.9–8.2 mm long, (5–) 7–9-nerved. Basal floret: lemma body 2–3.8 mm long, as long as wide, cartilaginous to indurated, rarely ridged at base of lobes, with margins ciliate, obscurely 9–11-nerved, with short, often appressed hairs all over body and not exceeding the lobe bases; lemma lobes 9, distinctly longer than body, 4.8–9 mm long; palea ±equal to lemma body, membranous, with keels ciliolate to ciliate (rarely glabrous near base), with body pubescent, with flaps pilose. Anthers 0.5–0.9 mm long.
Inwell-drained country above 200 m altitude, in and to the west of the GreatDividing Range, in sandy soils, in Eucalyptus spp. woodlands.
