Characteristics

A small tree. It grows 3-10 m tall. The crown is flat and spreading. The leaves have 2-20 side stalks with 22-55 pairs of leaflets. These are 4-12 mm long by 1-3 mm wide. They are narrow and with flattened hairs on both surfaces. The flowers are creamy white. They have a sweet scent. The petals are 1.5-2 mm long. The pods are 15-39 cm long and 5-7.5 cm wide. They are straight. There are 12-15 seeds in a pod. The seeds are 10-13 mm long by 8-10 mm wide.

Leaves with (1)2-20(22) pairs of pinnae; tendrils absent; leaflets (15)22-55 pairs, (3)4-12(14) x 1-3(3·5) mm., mostly linear-oblong, rounded to obtuse and slightly mucronate at the apex, ± appressed-pubescent on both surfaces, sometimes becoming glabrous above, rarely quite glabrous; midrib starting at the upper corner of the subtruncate to rounded base, running obliquely but nearer the upper margin.
Small tree 2.7-10(15) m. high, unarmed; crown spreading, flat or rounded; bark rough or smooth; young branchlets glabrous or sometimes ± pubescent.
Racemes shortly supra-axillary, 1-4 together, 7-16 cm. long (including the 0·4-1·5 cm. peduncle); axis pubescent, sometimes subglabrous.
Pods c. 15-39 x (3·8)5-7·5(9) cm., straight or nearly so, subcoriaceous; joints ± umbonate and often somewhat roughened in the centre.
Flowers creamy-white fading yellowish, sweetly scented; pedicels 0·5-1 mm. long.
Stamen-filaments 3·5-4 mm. long.
Petals 1·5-2 mm. long.
Seeds 10-13 x 8-10 mm.
