Characteristics

Perennial herb, 0.2-1.2 m high. Stems with strigulose pubescence, underground stems almost vertical with white, fleshy, rounded scales. Leaves narrowly lanceolate, serrate; rounded, obtuse or subcordate at base; petioles distinct, 1.0-2.5 mm long. Flowers erect or somewhat drooping in bud. Petals 4, rose-purple to white. Stigma white. Flowering time Dec.-Feb. Fruit a slender capsule, 30-90 mm long, loculicidal; pedicels 10-60 mm long. Seeds oblong-obovoid, papillose, up to 1.6 mm long, brown, coma up to 7 mm long.
