More
Perennial herb, 0.2-1.6 m high; strongly rhizomatous, lacking fleshy scales. Stem evenly strigulose. Leaves narrowly elliptic, weakly serrulate, distinctly petiolate, narrowly cuneate to attenuate at base. Flowers nodding in bud, later erect; petals white or cream-coloured, rose after pollination, 5-15 mm long. Flowering time Dec.-Mar. Fruit a loculicidal capsule, 30-70 mm long; pedicels 8-45 mm long. Seeds oblong-obovoid, obtuse at base, minutely reticulate, up to 1.35 mm long, light brown or tan, coma up to 9 mm long.
Leaves 2·8 × 0·3–2 cm., mostly opposite or subopposite, alternate in the inflorescence, the margins and veins and sometimes the entire surface finely strigulose, very narrowly to narrowly elliptic, rarely almost lanceolate, acute, rarely acuminate, narrowly cuneate to attenuate at the base, very rarely rounded, weakly serrulate or rarely serrate towards the base; petiole 1–8 mm. long, distinct.
Perennial herb, 0.2-1.6 m high. Stems glabrous. Leaves petiolate; blade narrowly ovate to elliptic, 20-80 x 3-20 mm, base cuneate to attenuate, margins weakly serrulate. Flowers: stigma entire; petals 5-15 x 2-7 mm, white or cream-coloured at first, then rose-pink after pollination; Dec.-May. Fruit 30-70 mm long, pedicel 8-45 mm long.
Perennial herb 0·2–1·6 m. tall, the stems sometimes persistent and subligneous; strongly rhizomatous, the rhizomes lacking scales, long-spreading and giving rise to new leafy shoots; plants evenly strigulose, sometimes sparsely so with faintly marked lines running down from the margins of the pedicels.
Capsules 3-7 mm. long, densely strigulose, erect, on a pedicel 0·8–4·5 cm. long; seeds 1–1·35 × 0·35–0·6 mm., light brown or tan, oblong-obovoid, obtuse at the base, very minutely pitted, the coma c. 5–9 mm. long, copious, white.
Perennial herb, 0.2-1.6 m high. Stems glabrous. Leaves petiolate, narrowly cuneate to attenuate at base. Stigma entire. Flowers white or cream at first, then rose-pink after pollination.
Styles white, 4·2–10 mm. long; stigma 1·8–4 × 1·2–1·8 mm., white, usually clavate, rarely subcapitate, the longer anthers usually just reaching the base of the stigma.
Inflorescence to 30 cm. long, densely strigulose, erect in bud, the bracts usually not much reduced; flowers nodding in bud and when they first open, later erect.
Anthers 0·8–2 mm. long, brownish, fading rose; filaments white, those of the longer stamens 2·5–8 mm. long, those of the shorter ones 1·5–5 mm.
Petals 5–15 × 2–7 mm., narrowly obovate, at first white or cream, then rose-pink following pollination, the notch 0·2–2 mm. deep.
Floral tube 1·5–2·3 × 0·8–2 mm., its mouth glabrous or long-ciliate.
Herbaceous or thinly woody, to 5 ft. high, often branched above
Flowers white or cream, often pink-tinged later.
Sepals 3·5–8·5 × 1·2–2·2 mm., apiculate.
