Stoloniferous herb to 1 m. high, often less, puberulous or shortly pubescent especially on midribs, ovaries and pedicels; leaves and stems often appearing subglabrous; no glandular or capitate hairs present.. Stems without imbricate scale-leaves.. Leaves ovate to ovate-lanceolate or oblong, about 1.5–5.5 cm. long and 0.3–2.1 (–2.6) cm. wide, obtuse or subacute at apex, the cauline ones normally broadly rounded to subcordate at base; petiole almost absent, 0.5–2.5 mm. long.. Flowers pink or mauve, even when just open.. Sepals 5.5–10 mm. long.. Petals mostly obovate, 8–15 mm. long, 4–11 mm. wide.. Style 5–6.5 mm. long.. Stigma obovoid-clavate, tapering below, often nearly as wide at apex as long, with 4 short lobes at apex less than a third of the total stigma-length.. Capsules 3.5–7.7 cm. long; pedicels (1–) 2–6.5 cm. long.
