Very robust to massive bole-climber, flowering on adherent shoots, with extensive foraging flagelliform shoots; feeder roots smooth; internodes smooth. Leaves: petiole to c. 1 m long (usually less), apically geniculate, sheathing in lower c. 1/2–2/3; wings of sheath persistent except for scarious extreme margin; blade entire, lanceolate and sometimes grey-variegated when juvenile, becoming (elliptic to) oblong-ovate to broadly ovate, to c. 1 m long; venation differentiated into numerous primary veins alternating with less robust parallel secondary veins. Inflorescence solitary, rarely paired, c. 20 cm long; spathe green outside, dirty cream within, marcescent and blackening; spadix subsessile, thick, bluntly spindle shaped, slightly shorter than spathe. Stigmas slit-like to broadly punctate (often mixed shapes in one spadix), sessile. Infructescence orange, the fruits ?not dehiscent.
