Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Eragrostis

Characteristics

Spikelets 4.5–8 × 2.5–2.8 mm, elliptic-ovate, laterally compressed, 8–15-flowered, the florets tardily disarticulating from below but the rhachilla becoming fragile; glumes subequal, 1.8–2.3 mm long, reaching almost to the apex of the adjacent lemmas, keeled, narrowly lanceolate in profile, glabrous, subacute to acute at the apex; lemmas 1.8–2.3 mm long, keeled, narrowly elliptic in profile, membranous with distinct lateral nerves, diverging from the rhachilla at c. 45°, those in opposite rows scarcely imbricate, the rhachilla ± visible between them, pallid with purple tinge, glabrous, truncate at the apex; palea tardily deciduous after the lemma, glabrous on the flanks, the keels slender, wingless, thinly scabrid; anthers 3, 1–1.4 mm long.
More
Panicle 13–25 cm long, elliptic-oblong, loose and open, the spikelets evenly distributed, the branches and branchlets stiff and straight, clearly demarcated from the slender flexuous pedicels, these 3–6 mm long, the primary branches not in whorls, usually terminating in a slender bristle or abortive spikelet (but sometimes in a fertile spikelet), glabrous in the axils, eglandular.
Caespitose perennial without rhizomes or stolons; culms up to 80 cm tall, erect, unbranched, eglandular, the nodes not exposed; basal leaf sheaths glabrous, chartaceous, terete, eglandular, persistent; ligule a line of hairs; leaf laminas up to 21 cm long and 0.7 mm in diameter, tightly involute and setaceous, long-ciliate below, otherwise glabrous, eglandular.
