Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Eragrostis

Characteristics

Spikelets 2.5–4.5 × 1.5–2.5 mm, narrowly oblong to ovate, lightly laterally compressed, 6–12-flowered, the florets disarticulating from the apex downwards, the rhachilla fragile; glumes unequal, lightly keeled, narrowly oblong to lanceolate in profile, glabrous, acute at the apex, the inferior 1–1.6 mm long, the superior 1.3–2 mm long, both reaching to beyond the middle of the adjacent lemmas; lemmas 1–1.5 mm long, lightly keeled, oblong to oblong-elliptic in profile, membranous with distinct lateral nerves, diverging from the rhachilla at less than 45°, those in opposite rows scarcely imbricate, the rhachilla visible between them, usually purplish, sometimes green, smooth or scaberulous, broadly obtuse and obscurely mucronate at the apex; palea glabrous on the flanks, the keels slender, wingless, ciliate with tubercle-based hairs 0.4–0.8 mm long; anthers 3, 0.3–1 mm long.
More
Tufted annual; culms 15–35 cm. high, erect or ascending, somewhat wiry.. Leaf-blades flat, up to 10 cm. long and 4 mm. wide.. Panicle narrowly lanceolate, 6–18 cm. long, contracted but scarcely spiciform, the branches with or without oblong glands (but not sticky).. Spikelets 5–14-flowered, narrowly oblong to ovate, 2–4.5 mm. long, purplish, neither fluffy nor grouped into clusters, breaking up from the apex, the rhachilla fragile; glumes narrowly ovate, 1–1.5 mm. long, acute; lemmas oblong-elliptic, 1–1.5 mm. long, smooth or scaberulous, broadly obtuse, ± obscurely mucronate; palea-keels ciliate, the hairs 0.4–0.5 mm. long, a little more than the width of the adjacent lemma; anthers 3, 0.3–0.4 mm. long.. Caryopsis ellipsoid, 0.5 mm. long.
Loosely tufted, erect annual to 350 mm high; culm with yellowish, non-sticky glands below nodes. Leaf blade 30-100 x to 4(6) mm. Inflorescence contracted, dense; branches adpressed to main axis, lowest branches not whorled; spikelets close to one another but evenly spaced, glands if present not sticky. Spikelet 2.0-4.5 x 1.0-1.8(2.5) mm; rachilla fragile, lemmas and paleas breaking up from apex downwards; glumes unequal, 1-2 mm long; lemma 1.0-1.5 mm long, broadly obtuse, mucro present or absent, keel smooth or scaberulous, lateral nerves distinct; palea keels wingless, hairs 0.3-0.8 mm long, bulbous-based; hairs exserted from lemma; anthers 2-3 (number variable in the same inflorescence), 0.3-0.4(1.0) mm long; caryopsis elliptic.
Annual, loosely tufted (erect), up to 350 mm tall. Leaf blades up to 100 mm long, up to 4 mm wide. Spikelets 2-4 mm long, 1.0-1.8 mm wide. Inflorescence contracted, dense, branches appressed to main axis, spikelets close to one another, glands if present not sticky; spikelet with rhachilla fragile, lemmas and/or paleas breaking up from apex downwards; lemma keels smooth or scaberulous; palea keels with hairs 0.3-0.6 mm long, which are exserted from lemma; anthers 2 or 3 (number variable in the same inflorescence), 0.3-0.4 mm long.
Panicle 4–22 cm long, narrowly lanceolate to linear-oblong, contracted and dense with ascending branches but scarcely spiciform, the spikelets crowded but evenly distributed on short pedicels 0.6–2 mm long, the primary branches not in whorls, terminating in a fertile spikelet, glabrous in the axils, the branches and pedicels with ± oblong non-sticky glands.
Loosely caespitose annual; culms up to 50 cm tall, erect or ascending, wiry, branched or unbranched, glabrous at the nodes, with a faint ring of coalescent yellowish non-sticky glands below the nodes; leaf sheaths eglandular; ligule a line of hairs; leaf laminas 3–15 cm × 2–4(6) mm, linear, flat or involute, glabrous, eglandular, glaucous or green.
Caryopsis 0.5–0.7 mm long, elliptic.
