Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Eragrostis

Characteristics

Tufted, annual to 500 mm high; erect to geniculate; basal sheaths glabrous or with long scattered hairs; culm internodes often with glands. Leaf blade to 150 x to 4.5 mm; glands present or absent. Inflorescence branches slightly spreading to widely spreading; lowest branches not whorled; central axis glandular; spikelets densely crowded. Spikelet 3.5-5.0 x 2.0-4.0 mm, ovate to very broadly oblong; rachilla fragile, breaking up from apex downwards; glumes subequal, keeled; upper glume 2/3-3/4 length of lemma above; lemma 1.6-1.8 mm long, keeled, broadly obtuse, dull, same texture throughout, often flushed purple, lateral nerves distinct with small glandular dots; palea keels entire, glabrous, with small glandular dots, margins wide apart, narrowing between keels and margin from base upwards to apex; anther 1.0-1.2 mm long; caryopsis obovate.
More
Spikelets 3.5–5 × 2–4 mm, broadly oblong to ovate, strongly laterally compressed, 5–10-flowered, the florets disarticulating from the apex downwards, the rhachilla fragile; glumes subequal, 1.8–2.6 mm long, reaching to 2/3 or 3/4 the way along the adjacent lemmas, keeled, narrowly ovate in profile, gland-dotted on the keel and nerves, minutely asperulous on the flanks, acute at the apex; lemmas 1.6–1.8 mm long, strongly keeled, broadly ovate in profile, membranous with distinct lateral nerves, diverging from the rhachilla at c. 45°, those in opposite rows imbricate and concealing the rhachilla, pallid, greenish or purplish, gland-dotted on the nerves and keel, minutely asperulous on the flanks, obtuse at the apex; palea glabrous on the flanks, the keels slender, wingless, scaberulous above; anthers 3, 1–1.2 mm long.
Tufted annual, up to 0.5 m tall. Leaves linear; ligule a fringe of hairs. Inflorescence a panicle, lowest branches not whorled. Spikelets densely crowded, up to 5 x 2-4.5 mm, many-flowered, pallid, green to purplish, rhachilla fragile, breaking from apex downwards, awnless; glumes subequal; lateral nerves of lemma with small glandular dots; anthers 1-1.2 mm long. Feb.-May and Jul.-Nov.
Caespitose annual; culms up to 50 cm tall, erect or ascending, simple or branched, glabrous at the nodes, often gland-dotted on the internodes; leaf sheaths often gland-dotted on the nerves; ligule a line of hairs; leaf laminas 5–15 cm × 2.5–4.5 mm, linear, flat, glabrous or thinly pilose, often gland-dotted on the nerves and along the margins.
Panicle 2–11 cm long, narrowly oblong to linear-lanceolate, the spikelets subsessile on the short imbricate secondary branchlets, the primary branches 2–3 cm long, not in whorls, terminating in a fertile spikelet, glabrous in the axils, glandular on the main axis.
Caryopsis c. 1 mm long, obovate.
