Spikelets 4–8-flowered, oblong-elliptic, 3–5–6 mm. long, 1–5–2 mm. wide, pallid, breaking up from the base, the rhachilla breaking off above the glumes soon after the lower lemmas commence to fall; glumes narrowly ovate, subequal, 1–5–2 mm. long, acute; lemmas ovate-elliptic, 2–2.5 mm. long, acute to obtuse and mucronate; palea scaberulous on the keels, persistent; anthers 3, 0–3 mm. long..
