Characteristics

Spikelets (4)6–12 × 2–2.5(2.8) mm, ovate-oblong to oblong, laterally compressed, 10–22-flowered, the florets disarticulating from below upwards, the rhachilla persistent; glumes unequal, keeled, narrowly ovate in profile, glabrous on the flanks, scaberulous on the keel, acute at the apex, the inferior 1.9–2.4 mm long, reaching from 1/2 to 2/3 the way along the adjacent lemma, the superior 2.4–3 mm long, reaching nearly to the apex of the adjacent lemma; lemmas 2.5–3.3 mm long, keeled, elliptic-oblong in profile, membranous with distinct lateral nerves, slightly diverging from the rhachilla but those in opposite rows imbricate and concealing the rhachilla, dark greyish-green, scaberulous on the flanks, deeply tridentate at the apex; palea deciduous with the lemma, glabrous on the flanks, the keels slender, wingless, softly but shortly ciliolate, the cilia not protruding from the sides of the lemma; anthers 3, 0.8–1.2 mm long.
