Characteristics

Spikelets 2.5–6(8) × 1.3–2 mm, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, laterally compressed, 5–12-flowered, the florets disarticulating from below upwards, the rhachilla persistent; glumes subequal, 0.9–1.5 mm long, reaching from 1/2 to 2/3 the way along the adjacent lemmas, keeled, lanceolate in profile, scabrid on the keel, acute at the apex; lemmas 1.4–1.8 mm long, keeled, semi-ovate in profile (with straight keel and gibbous margins), membranous with prominent lateral nerves, these lumpy with conspicuous punctate glands, ± appressed to the rhachilla, those in opposite rows not imbricate, the rhachilla visible between them, greyish-green, scaberulous above, subacute to acute or even apiculate at the apex; palea deciduous with or soon after the lemma, glabrous on the flanks, the keels slender, wingless, glandular or scabrid; anthers 3, 0.5–1.2 mm long.

Panicle 5–11 cm long, narrowly elliptic to ovate, loose and open or with the spikelets condensed about the primary branches on pedicels 0.5–1.5 mm long, the primary branches not in whorls, terminating in a fertile spikelet, glabrous in the axils, eglandular or rarely with crateriform glands.
