Characteristics

Spikelets 5–6 × 1.1–1.3 mm, oblong, laterally compressed, 5–7-flowered, the florets disarticulating from below upwards, the rhachilla persistent; glumes unequal, keeled, narrowly lanceolate in profile, acute at the apex, the inferior 0.8–1.1 mm long, reaching to the middle of the adjacent lemma, the superior 1.3–1.5 mm long, reaching to between 1/3 and 1/2 the way along the adjacent lemma; lemmas c. 1.8 mm long, keeled, narrowly semi-ovate in profile (with straight keel and gibbous margins), membranous with distinct lateral nerves, appressed to the rhachilla, those in opposite rows scarcely imbricate, the rhachilla ± visible between them, olive-green, faintly scaberulous on the nerves and keel, acute at the apex; palea deciduous with or soon after the lemma, glabrous on the flanks, the keels slender, wingless, scaberulous; anthers not seen.

Caespitose perennial without rhizomes or stolons; culms up to 70 cm tall, erect, unbranched, glabrous at the nodes, with an irregular annular glandular patch below the nodes; basal leaf sheaths glabrous, chartaceous, terete, eglandular, persistent; ligule a line of hairs; leaf laminas 5–6.5 cm × c. 5 mm, broadly linear, flat, subamplexicaul, with a pale cartilaginous margin.
Panicle c. 16 cm long, oblong-elliptic, loose and open, the spikelets evenly distributed on pedicels 1–2.5 mm long, the primary branches several at a node but not obviously whorled, terminating in a fertile spikelet, thinly pilose in the axils, eglandular.
Caryopsis c. 1.2 mm long, narrowly oblong-elliptic.
