Characteristics

Spikelets 3–5 × 0.6–1 mm, oblong, lightly laterally compressed, 3–6-flowered, the florets disarticulating from below upwards, the rhachilla persistent; glumes unequal, the inferior a minute oblong scale 0.1–0.3(0.5) mm long, scarcely exceeding the base of the adjacent lemma, the superior 0.4–0.7 mm long, only about half as long as the adjacent rhachilla internode, narrowly ovate, acute at the apex; lemmas 1.3–1.5 mm long, lightly keeled, ovate to broadly ovate in profile, firmly membranous with distinct lateral nerves, appressed to the rhachilla but those in opposite rows scarcely imbricate, the rhachilla just visible between them, green or tinged with purple, scaberulous on the nerves and flanks, acute or subacute at the apex; palea deciduous with or soon after the lemma, glabrous on the flanks, the keels slender, wingless, scabrid; anthers 3, 0.1–0.2 mm long.
