Slender perennials. Culms 20–60 cm high, wiry. Leaves: ligule 0.4–0.7 mm long; blade involute to convolute, straight or curled or flexuose, 5–10 cm long, pilose. Panicles loose to open, pyramidal in outline, 12–23 cm long, 5–15 cm wide; branches spreading to divaricate, divided, covered with appressed branchlets and spikelets or naked near axils; lower primary branches fasciculate, unbranched. Spikelets shortly pedicellate or almost sessile, linear, 3–6 mm long, 1–1.3 mm wide; rachilla flexuose; florets 6–14, loosely overlapping; apical floret reduced. Glumes ±equal, oblong or ovate, 0.9–1.5 mm long, almost hyaline. Lemma oblong-ovate, 1–1.5 mm long, obtuse, ±hyaline, 3-nerved. Palea almost as long as lemma; body narrowly spathulate; keels sparsely scaberulous. Stamens 3; anthers 0.1–0.2 mm long. Grain laterally compressed or scarcely so, obtusely trigonous or quadrangular, obovoid or ellipsoid, 0.3–0.5 mm long, with a minute stipe.
Foundin red-brown loams, red and grey sands and grey clays; on seasonally floodedrun-off areas, fringes of lakes, claypans and billabongs, and on grassland plains.
