More
Robust, densely caespitose perennial without rhizomes or stolons; culms up to 130 cm tall, erect, unbranched, glabrous at the nodes, eglandular; basal leaf sheaths glabrous, chartaceous, terete, eglandular, persistent or rarely somewhat decaying into fibres; ligule a line of hairs; leaf laminas 5–15(20) cm × 0.8–2 mm, linear, usually involute, rarely flat, glabrous, eglandular.
Panicle 8–20 cm long, broadly ovate, very effuse with widely divaricate branchlets and pedicels, the spikelets evenly distributed on slender pedicels 6–22 mm long, the primary branches not in whorls, terminating in a fertile spikelet, the branches, branchlets and pedicels long-pilose (up to 12 mm) on a conspicuous swelling in the axils, eglandular.
