Characteristics

Spikelets 6–17 × 4–5 mm, ovate-oblong, not compressed, 20–58-flowered, the florets disarticulating from below upwards, the rhachilla persistent; glumes subequal, 2–2.2 mm long, reaching to 3/4 the way along the adjacent lemmas, dorsally rounded, ovate, glabrous, subacute to obtuse at the apex; lemmas 2.4–2.7 mm long, dorsally rounded, broadly ovate to suborbicular, firmly membranous with distinct lateral nerves, diverging from the rhachilla at nearly 90°, but those in opposite rows imbricate and concealing the rhachilla, yellowish-green tinged with purple, glabrous, obtuse at the apex; palea deciduous with the lemma, glabrous on the flanks, the keels slender, wingless, ciliolate with hairs 0.2–0.3 mm long, these concealed by the sides of the lemma; anthers 3, c. 0.8 mm long.
