Characteristics

Spikelets 2.5–4.5 × c. 1.5 mm, narrowly oblong, not compressed, 5–7-flowered, disarticulating from the apex downwards, the rhachilla fragile; glumes subequal, 1.3–2.5 mm long, reaching to beyond the middle of the adjacent lemmas, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, glabrous, acute to acuminate at the apex; lemmas 1.7–2.2 mm long, dorsally rounded, oblong-ovate, membranous with distinct lateral nerves, ± appressed to the rhachilla, those in opposite rows not imbricate, the rhachilla visible between them, dark green to leaden-grey, smooth, minutely scaberulous or sometimes hispidulous all over, ± appressedly pubescent to pilose near the margins, acute at the apex; palea glabrous on the flanks, the keels slender, wingless and ciliate with short irregular hairs 0.2–0.5 mm long; anthers 3, 0.5–1 mm long.
