Characteristics

Spikelets 6.5–9.5 × c. 1.3 mm, linear to narrowly oblong, laterally compressed, 6–16-flowered, the florets disarticulating from below upwards, the rhachilla persistent; glumes very unequal, keeled, lanceolate in profile, scabrid on the keel, acute at the apex, the inferior 0.5–1.5 mm long, reaching to about the middle of the adjacent lemma, the superior 1.5–2 mm long, reaching to 1/3 the way along the adjacent lemma, lemmas 1.4–1.8 mm long, keeled, semi-ovate in profile (with straight keel and gibbous margins), membranous with prominent lateral nerves, these and the keel with conspicuous punctate glands, ± appressed to the rhachilla, those in opposite rows not imbricate, the rhachilla visible between them, greyish-green, scaberulous above, subacute to acute or even apiculate at the apex; palea deciduous with or soon after the lemma, glabrous on the flanks, the keels slender, wingless, glandular or scabrid; anthers 3, 0.5–1.2 mm long.
