Britton, Sterns & Poggenb.], forming larger mats; dioecious; infls short and crowded, ovoid to subglobose, 1–3 cm, the staminate mostly more open and fewer-fld than the pistillate; peduncle villous; pedicels very short, 0.2–0.4 mm; lemmas herbaceous, 2.1–4 mm, usually sparsely villous along the veins, not falling individually; anthers of the staminate plants 1.5–2 mm. Wet soil and sandy or mud shores; Ky. and Ill. to S.D., Tex., and n. Mex. (Neeragrostis r.)
