Characteristics

Spikelets 8–12 × 3–3.5 mm, oblong to ovate-oblong, laterally compressed, 6–9-flowered, the florets disarticulating from below upwards, the rhachilla persistent; glumes unequal, keeled, lanceolate-oblong in profile, glabrous, subacute at the apex, the inferior 2.5–2.8 mm long, reaching the middle of the adjacent lemma, the superior 3–4 mm long, reaching to about 2/3 the way along the adjacent lemma; lemmas 3.5–4 mm long, keeled, narrowly oblong-elliptic in profile, membranous with distinct lateral nerves, ± appressed to the rhachilla, not imbricate and exposing the rhachilla, leaden-grey, glabrous, acute at the apex; palea deciduous with or soon after the lemma, glabrous on the flanks, the keels slender, wingless, puberulous; anthers 3, c. 2.6 mm long.
More
Densely caespitose perennial without rhizomes or stolons; culms up to 60 cm tall, erect, unbranched, glabrous at the nodes, eglandular; basal leaf sheaths glabrous, broadly chartaceous, terete, eglandular, disintegrating into a cushion of coarse persistent fibres; ligule a line of hairs; leaf laminas 5–10 cm long, 0.5–0.7 mm in diameter, tightly involute-setaceous, glabrous, eglandular.
Panicle 3–6.5 cm long, sparse, linear and contracted, the spikelets in remote groups of 2–3, the ‘pedicels’ 0.5–2.5(10) mm long, the primary branches not in whorls, terminating in a fertile spikelet, glabrous in the axils, eglandular.
