Caespitose perennial, the basal sheaths white tomentose below; culms 60–90 cm. high, erect.. Leaf-blades flat or rolled, 12–45 cm. long, 2–4 mm. wide, stiff.. Panicle linear to narrowly oblong, 20–45 cm. long, the spikelets in little clusters subsessile on the primary branches, their short pedicels bearing a few long white setae almost equalling the spikelet; primary branches spike-like, 2–9 cm. long, usually densely spiculate, distant in the lower part of the panicle.. Spikelets 4–12-flowered, broadly ovate, 2.5–3.5 mm. long, yellowish brown, breaking up from the apex, the rhachilla fragile; glumes narrowly ovate, subequal, 1.5–2.2 mm. long, acuminate to a brief awn-point; lemmas narrowly oblong, 1.2–2 mm. long, minutely scaberulous, truncate, the 3 nerves excurrent into short mucros; palea-keels ciliate with stiff tubercle-based hairs 0.6–0.7 mm. long; anthers 3, 1 mm. long..
