Characteristics

Perennial, upright shrublet, up to 0.6 m high, succulent. Leaves smooth, glaucous, covered with tannin idioblasts, borne upright, laterally compressed, sharply keeled, keel finely serrulate. Flowers solitary, red or yellow. Flowering time Sept.-Nov. Capsules 5-locular, woody, valve wings absent, covering membranes with a closing ledge, closing body absent.
