Perennial plants (7–) 15–30 (–40) cm high; base slightly thickened, sparsely pubescent (cataphylls glabrous). Culms usually simple, glabrous or the lower internodes pubescent; nodes glabrous or sometimes pubescent. Leaves mainly basal and glabrous; sheaths shorter than culm internodes; blade 2–4 cm long, setaceous, scaberulous, sometimes sparsely pilose with tubercle-based hairs. Panicles open, (1–) 2–4 (–5.5) cm long, (0.5–) 1–2 (–3) cm wide. Glumes obliquely attached (distant by c. 0.5 mm), slightly unequal, 2–5 mm long, muticous, 7–9-nerved, smooth, glabrous. Florets exceeding glumes by up to 1 mm. Callus entirely bearded. Lemma 2.5–c. 6 mm long, acute to acuminate, muticous or sometimes with cusp to 0.8 mm long, cartilaginous, obscurely 5–7-nerved, without grooves, pubescent or pilose in lower 2/3–3/4 with often sparse hairs, glabrous and smooth or scaberulous above. Palea entire, muticous, pubescent like lemma or sometimes almost glabrous. Caryopsis1.5–2 mm long.
Growsin lowlying sandplains in association with wallum scrub, low heath and open eucalyptforest, and sometimes on disturbed ground.
