Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Eriachne

Characteristics

Perennial plants 60–65 cm high, somewhat glaucous; base thickened, pubescent. Culms branched, glabrous; nodes glabrous or bearded. Leaves: sheaths less than half as long as culm internodes, glabrous; blade to 9 cm long, 1.5–2 mm wide, glabrous or scabrous-hispid with tubercle-based hairs, with margins tuberculate-prickly scabrous. Panicles open, 4–8 cm long, 0.5–1.5 cm wide. Glumes obliquely attached (distant by 0.5–0.7 mm), 5–7 mm long, muticous, 9–11-nerved, smooth, glabrous. Florets exceeding glumes by 0.8–3.5 mm; lemma and palea appressed or finally divergent near apex. Callus bearded. Lemma 7–10 mm long, acuminate, muticous or with awnlet to 1 mm long, membranous with hyaline glabrous margins, 5–7-nerved (nerves obscure in lower part), bisulcate towards apex, hirsute in lower 1/3–1/2, glabrous and scaberulous above, long-ciliate on submargins almost to lemma apex. Palea c. 6 mm long, entire or bifid for c. 0.5 mm, muticous, glabrous except for a few basal hairs. Caryopsis c. 4.5 mm long.
