Twigs tomentose with white stellate and short dendritic hairs, glabrescent.. Leaves opposite or subopposite, soon clustered on short shoots, often sparse at flowering time; petiole (1–)2–3 mm. long; lamina elliptic to oblanceolate, 5–25 mm. long, 1.5–8 mm. wide, cuneate at the base, stellate-pubescent on both surfaces, gradually glabrescent, with 4–6 sometimes obscure pairs of lateral nerves.. Heads terminal on short shoots or on older leafless nodes, (2–)4-flowered; peduncle 5–15 mm. long; bract broadly ovate or obovate, concave, 3–6 mm. long, sometimes with a short leafy limb and then up to 10 mm. long, stellate tomentose.. Receptacle (0.5–)1–1.2 mm. long, white tomentose.. Calyx 0.7–1 mm. long, similarly hairy.. Corolla 3–4.5 cm. long, yellow or yellow-green, the tube becoming flushed orange or red, the basal swelling villous, the rest densely covered with a mixture of stellate, dendritic and relatively few long simple hairs; basal swelling 3–4 mm. long; constriction ± 1 mm. long, hairy inside; upper part of tube 7–9 mm. long..
