Characteristics

Stems to 1 m. long; twigs tomentose with stellate and short dendritic hairs, soon glabrescent.. Leaves opposite and also crowded on short shoots; petiole 5–10 mm. long; lamina narrowly oblong-elliptic, 3.5–7 cm. long, 0.8–1.5 cm. wide, obtuse to rounded at the apex, cuneate at the base, stellate-tomentose at first, soon glabrescent, with 8–10 pairs of obscure lateral nerves.. Heads terminal from a tuft of leaves, (2–)4-flowered; peduncle 1–1.5 cm. long, tomentose; bract ovate-triangular, sometimes acuminate into a short incurved limb, 3–8 mm. long.. Receptacle 1.5 mm. long, long-hairy.. Calyx 2–2.5 mm. long, silky-pubescent, ± glabrescent.. Corolla 4–5 cm. long, pale green at the base, orange on the tube above, with lobes pale greeny yellow, silky villous, the hairs especially long and somewhat evanescent on the basal swelling; basal swelling 5–6 mm. long; constriction 3 mm. long; funnel-shaped upper part 5–8 mm. long.. Berry 10 mm. long, 7 mm. in diameter, pilose and rugose to squamate around the middle.
