Characteristics

Leaves opposite to alternate, soon clustered on short shoots; petiole 3–15 mm long; lamina 2–6 × 1–3.5 cm, essentially elliptic, varying slightly towards ovate, oblong or obovate, cuneate to slightly cordate at base, stellate pubescent on both surfaces, sometimes glabrescent, with 6–8 pairs of lateral nerves.

Heads loose, terminal from a tuft of usually 2 pairs of leaves (sometimes 2 short shoots together at primary node), (2)4–7-flowered, often 1–2 flowers below the others, rather resembling a candelabra; peduncle 1.2–2.5 cm long; pedicel 0–3 mm long; bract 3–5 mm long, lanceolate, concave, or trowel-shaped.
Corolla 4–5 cm long, greenish-yellow, sometimes tinged orange or with red inside, stellate tomentose and with longer dendritic hairs, sometimes glabrescent on lobe tips; basal swelling 4–5 mm long; constriction 3–4 mm long; funnel shaped upper tube 6–7 mm long.
Stems spreading to 1 m; twigs tomentose with coarse stellate and often dendritic hairs, glabrescent.
Receptacle plus calyx urceolate, 2–3 mm long (calyx 0.7–1 mm long), rather uniformly villous.
Berry blue-green, with calyx 10–12 mm long, pubescent; seed orange to red.
