Characteristics

Low, erect, glabrous shrublet up to 45 cm (1 1/2 ft) high. Branches virgate or incurved, the younger strongly channelled between the leaf cushions. Leaves 3-nate, 5-15 mm long, imbricate, erect, subadpressed, linear-lanceolate, acute, callous tipped, with margins indexed with a narrow sub-scarious edge, glaucous, the floral larger and sometimes coloured. Flowers terminal in 3-to 9-flowered umbels, erect-spreading; peduncles 14-20 mm long; bracts, 2 approximate, 1 basal, caducous or sometimes wanting, up to 14 mm long, lanceolate, acuminate, green to pink. Sepals like the bracts but ovate, acuminate, up to 17 mm long and 9 mm wide, pink. Corolla 18-20 mm long, 6-8 mm broad above base, tubular-conical or subampullaceous, rosy-pink; lobes spreading to slightly recurved, 4 mm long, ovate, acute. Filaments capillary; anthers included, about 1 mm long, broad oblong, obtuse, smooth, muticous; pore 2/3 the length of the cell. Ovary globose, glabrous; style included; stigma capitate.
