Characteristics

Erect shrub up to 1 m (3 ft) or more. Branches diffuse but rigid, the younger pubescent with prominent leaf-scars. Leaves 4-to 6-nate, 6-10 mm long, spreading, recurved, subulate, glabrous. Flowers terminal and axillary, 4-nate or whorled; peduncles 2 mm long, striate, glabrous; bracts 6 mm long, remote, foliaceous. Sepals 7 mm long, linear from an ovate, scarious base, acuminate, foliaceous. Corolla 2-2.4 cm long, tubular, subequal, curved, glabrous, viscidulous in the lower part, orange to red; lobes 3 mm long, erect, subobtuse, paler than the tube. Filaments slender; anthers manifest, 1 mm long, lateral, dorsifixed, semiovate, dark, muticous; pore about 1/3 the length of the cell. Ovary broadly turbinate, shortly stipitate; style exserted; stigma capitellate.
