Characteristics

Erect shrub up to 60 cm (2 ft) or so, glabrous. Leaves 4-nate, 5-6 mm long, squarrose-recurved, the petioles adpressed, broad-oblong, sulcate, setose-ciliate, the floral leaves more erect, longer and bract-like. Flowers 4-nate; peduncles 6 mm long viscid; bracts median, 6-8 mm long, linear-lanceolate, rigid, keel-tipped, leathery, viscid. Sepals 6-10 mm long, like the bracts but more acuminate, wider and longer. Corolla 2.5 cm long, tubular-inflated, only slightly narrowed above the middle, a little constricted at the throat, extremely viscid, purplish pink with 8 darker veins, throat dark purple; lobes 3 mm long, spreading, oblong, retuse, wider than long, white. Filaments flat, dilated below the anthers, red with a distinct, dark central nerve; anthers included, 3 mm long, lateral, subcrescent-shaped, deeply bilobed and subprognathous at the base, muticous, pale brown. Ovary 6 mm long, elongate, not or scarcely stipitate; style included; stigma capitellate, very small.
