Characteristics

Entirely glabrous; branches pallid, longitudinally wrinkled (in the specimen before us 8-9 in. long); leaves 4-nate, spreading or reflexed, irregularly curved and bent round the branches, linear, acute, sulcate, glaucous; younger petioles ciliate, 6-7 lin. long, much exceeding the internodes; inflorescence axillary, flowers spreading at the ends of the branches, corolline; pedicels slender, 4-5 1/2 lin. long; bracts remote, lanceolate-linear, acuminate, 1-2 lin. long; sepals broad-lanceolate, acuminate, scarious, pallid, with a darker keel on the upper half, 3 lin. long; corolla somewhat salver-shaped; tube narrow-ovoid, dry, rosy, 4 1/2 lin. long; segments large, stellate-spreading, elliptic-oblong, obtuse or subacute (Like those of § Euryloma), paler than the tube, 3 1/2-4 lin. long, 1 1/2 lin. wide; filaments capillary, 4 1/2 lin. long; anthers broad-oblong, very obtuse, smooth, a little over 1/2 lin. long, minutely aristulate; pore 3/8 the length of the cell; awns situated above the middle of the cell, linear or tooth-like; style included, slender, thickened at the apex; stigma capitellate; ovary glabrous; ovules obovate, with a white papery wing or margin.

Erect shrub, up to 0.5-0.7 m high, glabrous. Leaves 4-nate, spreading or reflexed, linear, acute, sulcate, glaucous. Flowers axillary, spreading at ends of branches, coralline. Calyx sepals 6.3 mm long, broadly lanceolate, acuminate, scarious, pallid, keel on upper half darker, pink. Corolla 9.5 mm long, ± salver-shaped; tube narrowly ovoid to urceolate, dry, rosy; lobes large, 7.3-8.4 x 3.2 mm stellate-spreading, elliptic-oblong, paler than tube. Filaments capillary, 9.5 mm long; anthers 1.1 mm long, broadly oblong, obtuse, smooth, minutely aristulate; pore 3/8 length of theca; appendages minute, above middle of theca, linear or tooth-like. Ovary glabrous; ovules obovate, white-papery winged; style included, slender, thickened at apex; stigma capitellate. Flowering time Aug.-Dec.
