Characteristics

Leaves in whorls of 3, ascending to appressed, narrowly elliptic, obtuse, sulcate below, 2·0–3·0 mm. long, 0·3–0·5 mm. wide, the proximal part of the apparent margin with evanescent minute ciliolae, sessile or very shortly stalked glands at the apex and widely spaced along the apparent margin; petioles c. 0·5 mm. long, minutely ciliolate.

Bract and bracteoles insertedd on the upper half of the pedicel, bracteoles only very slightly above bract, narrowly ovate, acute, ciliolate, bract c. 0·4 mm. long, bracteoles c. 0–6 mm. long.
Stamens 8, included, filaments geniculate, c. 0·7 mm. long, anthers broad, c. 0·4 mm. long, with aristate appendages with fimbriate margins c. 0·3 mm. long.
Ovary depressed globose, ridged, c. 0·5 mm. in diameter, minutely pubescent; style included, glabrous, c. 1·0 mm. long, stigma capitate.
Corolla narrowly urceolate, pink to mauve, glabrous 2·0–2·5 mm. long, 1·5–2·0 mm. broad, lobes rounded, sinuses acute, c. 0·4 mm. deep.
Branchlets slender, the finest 0·2–0·3 mm. diameter, without infrafoliar ridges, minutely pubescent with simple hairs c. 0·02 mm. long.
Calyx segments united only at the base, narrowly ovate, acute, ciliolate, leaf–like at the tip, c. 1·3 mm. long.
A much branched sub–shrub, the branches to 30 cm. long but forming a cushion no more than 15 cm. tall.
Flowers in groups of 3, very occasionally 6–9, at the tips of the branchlets.
Pedicels glabrous, c. 1·5 mm. long.
