Characteristics

Erect shrub up to about 30 cm (1 ft). Branches diffusely spreading, pubescent. Leaves 3-nate, 2-3 mm long, mostly squarrose-recurved or erect-spreading, rather distant, ovate to oblong, sub-obtuse, thick, shining, the younger puberulous. Flowers 3-nate, terminal, calycine, the heads more or less cernuous; peduncles 1 mm long, glabrous; bracts approximate, 3 mm long, ovate-orbicular, subscarious, ciliate, white. Sepals 4 mm long, oblong-spathulate, acute, ciliate, about equal to the corolla, white turning pink. Corolla 3-4 mm long, suburceolate, dry, puberulous, pink, soon turning brown; lobes upright, less than 1 mm long, acute, ciliate. Filaments widening at the darker connective; anthers exserted, less than 1 mm long, subterminal, broad-oval, bipartite and subdivaricate, muticous; pore very large. Ovary oblong-obovate, glabrous; style exserted; stigma simple.
