Characteristics

Erect or diffuse, shrublet often densely bushy, up to 45 cm (1 1/2 ft) or so. Branches pubescent, brown. Leaves 3-nate, 2-5 mm long, linear, obtuse, adpressed or spreading, scarcely imbricate, sulcate, pilose. Flowers 3-nate, calycine, spreading; peduncles 4-8 mm long, villous; bracts remote, small, pilose. Sepals 2.5-3 mm long, ovate, acute or very broadly lanceolate, densely villous with white or pink hairs almost completely concealing the corolla except for the lobes. Corolla 3-3.5 mm long, broadly urceolate, dry, pilose, white or pale rose; lobes recurved, 1/4-1/3 the length of the tube, blunt. Anthers exserted, about 1-2 mm long, terminal, narrow-elliptical, bipartite, produced above the pore, dark brown, minutely scabrid, muticous; pore about 1/2 the length of the cell. Ovary ovoid, villous; style exserted; stigma subsimple.
