Characteristics

Erect shrub to 30 cm (1 ft) or so. Branches glabrous. Leaves 4-nate, 4-5 mm long, erect-incurved or more or less spreading and straight, sometimes imbricate but often not or scarcely so and about equal to the internodes, linear, subobtuse, sulcate, pubescent and ciliate. Flowers terminal, 3-nate, 4-nate or clustered; peduncles under 2 mm long, glabrous or thinly pilose, red; bracts median, small, ciliate, red. Sepals 1.5 mm long, lanceolate, acute, keel-tipped, subglabrous, softly ciliate, red. Corolla 3 mm long, sub-globose-urceolate, contracted at the throat, dry, glabrous, deep red; lobes 2/3-7/8 the length of the tube, erect, obtuse. Filaments broad; anthers included, 2/5-1/2 mm long, obliquely ovate, very obtuse, appendiculate; pore 1/2 the cell; crests about 1/2 the length of the cell, broad-subulate to cuneate, subentire or lobed, ciliate. Ovary turbinate, glabrous; style included, short, thickened towards the apex; stigma capitate, large.
