Characteristics

Erect shrub up to 45 cm (1 1/2 ft) or so. Branches ascending, subvirgate to spreading, puberulous. Leaves 3-nate, 3-5 mm long, recurved to squarrose, lanceolate to oblong, acute, sulcate, thick, glabrous, glossy. Flowers 3-nate, somewhat scanty, terminal on short branchlets or pseudolateral, corolline; peduncles 2-4 mm long, puberulous, subviscid; bracts 1-1.5 mm long, approximate, ovate, viscid. Sepals 2-2.5 mm long, broad-ovate or obovate, acute, keel-tipped, concave, leathery, viscid, coloured. Corolla 4-5 mm long when flattened out, more or less wheel-shaped, the tube about 2 mm long, hemispherical; the lobes 2.5-3 mm long, suddenly and widely spreading, very broad and obtuse, the whole dry, glabrous, white. Anthers manifest, about 1 mm long, broad-oblong or subtetragonous, with a dorsal and apical ridge or entire crest, membranous at the apex, sometimes expanded into a wing-like process on either side, thickened downwards into awns or muticous, bipartite, papillose-scabrid; pore less than 1/2 the cell. Ovary seated on a large disc, oblong, glabrous; style exserted; stigma capitellate.
