Erect, ± soft shrub, 0.4-2.0 m high. Leaves 4-nate, 3-7 mm long, imbricate, linear-lanceolate, subtrigonous, sulcate, ciliate. Flowers solitary or, less often 2-4-nate, subsessile, ascending; on leafy lateral branches in a loose arrangement up main branches. Calyx sepals variable, linear and foliaceous with base broad and scarious to ovate-lanceolate with broad scarious keel. Corolla 20-38 mm long, clavate-tubular, curved, pubescent, dry, pink to orange, red, yellow or bicoloured; lobes spreading, obtuse. Stamens with slender, glabrous or pilose filaments; anthers ± manifest, oblong, dorsally attached near base; appendages decurrent along filament; pore 1/2 length of theca. Ovary 4-6 locular, turbinate, apical part with distinct, enlarged, callous-like bosses; style exserted; stigma capitellate. Flowering time all year.
