Erect straggly shrub up to 120 cm (4 ft) or so, glabrous in all parts. Branches subvirgate with elongating internodes and prominent scars from the leaf cushions, short and bushy at the base of the shrub, flowering branches elongate. Leaves 4-nate, 4-5 mm long, erect, linear, subacute, sulcate. Flowers mostly solitary and irregularly clustered at ends of branches; peduncles 2.5-3 mm long; bracts approximate, linear. Sepals 5 mm long, linear-lanceolate, acuminate, keeled, scarious, dliate. Corolla 1-1.2 cm long, about 1.5 mm wide, cylindrical, slightly contracted at the mouth, dry, pale yellow or white. Filaments filiform; anthers included, under 1 mm long, lateral, narrow-oblong, muticous; pore 3/4 the length of the cell. Ovary elongate, somewhat contracted at the base; style included; stigma simple.
