Characteristics

Erect shrub up to 45 cm (1 1/2 ft) or so. Branches spreading or virgate, glabrous. Leaves 4-nate, 6-7 mm long, suberect to spreading, curved, linear, acute, trigonous or round-backed, glabrous. Flowers 4-nate, subsessile; bracts approximate. Sepals and bracts 4-6 mm long, variable in shape from sublinear to obovate or spathulate, almost invariably broadest above the middle, sometimes unguiculate, keeled, scarious, more or less deeply pectinate-ciliate or fimbricate-lacerate, not cuspidate. Corolla 6-8 mm long, urceolate to tubular, dry, glabrous, white or rosy; lobes variable, 2 mm long or less, sometimes 1/2 as long as the tube, suborbicular, mostly mealy above. Filaments filiform; anthers included, 0.8 mm long, lateral, oblong, obtuse, muticous; pore almost as long as the cell. Ovary turbinate, glabrous; style included to just manifest; stigma capitate.
