Characteristics

Erect shrub, 0.1-1.8 m high; main stem with occasional secondary branches. Leaves 3-nate, erect and imbricate, or somewhat spreading, 4.2-6.3 mm long, linear to elliptic-oblong, sulcate, thick, smooth. Flowers scattered or occasionally in spike-like clusters. Calyx sepals like bracts, 4.2 mm long with a deep-set long sulcus. Corolla subclavate-tubular, glabrous, thick, very viscid, 21.0-25.2 mm long; tube shades of purple to pink to dark red; lobes suberect, green to pale green. Stamens included; filaments slightly wider at base; anthers narrow-oblong, with a projecting point at base, 4.2 mm long, muticous with short aristulate appendages. Ovary glabrous; style exserted. Flowering time all year.
