Shrub, 0.6-1.5 m high. Leaves 3-nate, 3-7 x 0.50-0.75 mm, patent, imbricate, linear, apex acute, flat above, convex and sulcate below, margins with small glands. Flowers terminal on branches; pedicels 1.5-2.5 mm long, pubescent. Calyx divided to base, margins ciliate; lobes 1 x 0.7-1.0 mm, rhomboid. Corolla cyathiform, urceolate or campanulate, 1.5-2.0 x 1.5 mm, pink to dark red to brown, glabrous; lobes deltoid, erect to recurved. Stamens with filiform filaments, ± 0.5 mm long; anthers 8, included. Ovary ± 0.5 mm long, glabrous; style ± 1.0 mm long, exserted at maturity; stigma peltate; fruit with capsules persistent long after flowering. Flowering time July-Feb.

Flowers: on terminal parts of branches; pedicels 1.5-2.5 mm, hairy; bracts 3, 1.5 mm long; anthers included, not awned throughout year; style scarcely exceeds 1 mm, exserted at maturity; stigma peltate; ovary glabrous, calyx lobes rhomboid, 1 x 0.75-1.00 mm with marginal cilia; corolla cup-, urn-or tube-shaped, 1.5-2.5 x 1.5 mm, glabrous, red to pink; Jul.-Jan. Capsule persistent long after flowering.
