Much-branched shrub, 0.1-0.5(1.2) m high. Leaves 3-nate, olive-green, glossy, imbricate, held erect, close to stem; blade linear, 2-3 mm long, margins with coarse, often forked hairs or glabrous. Flowers in nodding heads at tips of branches; pedicels hairy; bracts 3. Calyx sepals 1-3 mm long, conspicuous, hairy. Corolla funnel-shaped, ovoid or cyathiform, flares out at mouth, glabrous, pink, red or almost purple. Anthers muticous, included, appendages minute and bristle-like or absent. Style ± 2 mm; stigma well-exserted. Flowering time July-Jan.
