Characteristics

Erect densely branched shrub up to 1 m tall, single-stemmed reseeder. Branches: numerous erect main and secondary flowering branchlets 0.1-10.0 mm long, puberulous and villous, no infrafoliar ridges. Leaves 3-nate, erect imbricate to semi-spreading, 1.5-3.0 x 0.5-0.7 mm, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, acute, adaxially flat, abaxially obtuse to acute, narrowly sulcate, glabrous, shortly and sparsely ciliate with sessile glands intermixed, with apical tuft when young; petiole adpressed, 0.4-0.5 mm long, glabrous, edged with a few sessile glands. Inflorescence: flowers 3-nate in 3 or 4 whorls, in condensed head-like raceme, erect and terminal on main branches and lateral branchlets; pedicel very short, 0.05-0.1 mm long, occasionally absent, glabrous; bract non-recaulescent, 2.0-2.5 mm long, always leaf-like, reducing to just shorter than calyx in uppermos whorl; bracteoles absent. Calyx 2-lobed, dorsally flattened, 1.0 x 0.6 mm, elliptic to very broadly obovate, glabrous to finely puberulous in centre, ciliate on lobes and lateral edges, minutely colliculate, green or cream; lobes 1/10 the length of the tube, deltoid-acute to broadly rounded sometimes with 3 teeth on adaxial lobe, sulcus absent, sometimes with a subapical abaxial pulvinus. Corolla 2-lobed, 2.0-3.0 x 1.0 mm, from 1.5-2x as long as calyx, tubular narrowing just above the calyx, sometimes swollen in middle region, dorsally flat, glabrous, minutely colliculate with cells collapsing, white to pale pink drying distinctively white; lobes erect sometimes slightly spreading, 1/4 the length of tube. Stamens 4, free, exserted; filaments 3.0-3.5 mm long, linear, glabrous; anthers basifixed, obovate, muticous, light to dark brown; thecae erect adpressed, 0.7-0.8 x 0.15 mm, oblong, subfalcate, aculeate edged; pore 1/4-1/3 the length of theca; pollen in monads. Ovary 2-locular, 0.5 x 0.4 mm, obovoid, dorsally flat, emarginate, glabrous, with distinct nectaries around base; ovules 1 per locule, pendulous, placenta apical; style exserted, 3.5-4.0 mm long, filiform, glabrous; stigma simple truncate. Fruit indehiscent, 1.0 x 0.5 mm, ellipsoid-oblong, laterally flat, bilobed, just longer than calyx; pericarp thin and papery, with many crystals; seeds subcylindrical, testa thin, cells elongate with straight anticlinal walls, with no pits.
