Characteristics

Erect shrub up to 1.8 m (6 ft) or so. Branches few, long, virgate, glabrous, terminating in a conspicuous rosette of large, pinkish, green-tipped flowers, Leaves 6-nate or scattered, erect-spreading, linear, subterete, blunt, glabrous, on 3 mm long capillary petioles, the whole 1.2-1.7 cm long. Flowers in 10-to 25-flowered umbels; peduncles 6-8 mm long, glabrous; bracts median, foliaccous. Sepals about 6 mm long, narrow-lanceolate, acute, foliaceous, glabrous, viscid. Corolla 2.5-3.3 cm long, tubular, viscid, glossy, glabrous, rosy below, paler above; lobes short, subdeltoid, incurved, greenish. Anthers included, 34 mm long, lateral, oblong, appendiculate; pore about 1/2 the length of the cell; awns straight, shorter than the cells. Ovary narrow-oblong, long-stipitate, glabrous; style exserted; stigma simple.
