Erect shrub up to 45 cm (1 1/2 ft), densely bushy with numerous upright glabrous branches, the whole plant rather sticky. Leaves 3-or 4-nate 3 mm long, imbricate and curved outwards, elliptical or oblong, sulcate, minutely glandular-toothed, glabrous. Flowers 3-to 6-nate in terminal umbels; peduncles 2.5-4 mm long, glandular-pubescent, red; bracts, 2 approximate, 1 median, scarious, red, viscid. Sepals 2-3 mm long, ovate-lanceolate, prominently dark keel-tipped. Corolla 4- long, ovoid-urceolate, viscid and shining, reddish purple; lobes short, erect or slightly spreading. Anthers included, 0.5 mm long, dorsifixed above the base, cuneate, obtuse, glabrous, appendiculate; pore 3/5 the length of the cell; crests sublanceolate, narrow, as long as the cells, coarsely toothed, dark brown. Ovary glabrous; style included; stigma capitate.
