Characteristics

Erect shrub up to 60 cm (2 ft) or so. Branches erect or spreading with short ashy-grey tomentum. Leaves 3-nate, 3-4 mm long, linear-lanceolate,, erect to spreading, more or less incurved, keeled or subtrigonous, sulcate, glabrous. Flowers 3-nate, terminal on short branchlets, often cernuous, not very dense, calycine or subcorolline; peduncles 1-3 mm long, pubescent; bracts approximate, sepal-like but smaller. Sepals 1/2 the length of the corolla or equal to it, lanceolate to elliptical, oblong-obovate or broad-ovate, acuminate, keeled or keel-tipped, concave, scarious, glabrous. Corolla 3-5 mm long, cyathiform, dry, glabrous, white; lobes suberect, semi-orbicular or semiovate, acute above, 1/4-1/2 the length of the tube. Anthers exserted,1-1.5 mm long, subterminal, linear to oblong, bipartite, divaricate, smooth, brown, appendiculate; pore 1/2 the length of the cell; awns partly adnate to the filaments, shortly hirsute, the free part spreading, 1/5-1/3 the length of the cell. Ovary turbinate, glabrous; style long-exserted; stigma more or less cyathiform, with or without four filiform processes or simple at the clavate, truncate apex of the style.
