Characteristics

Dwarf, diffuse, hirsute shrublet with tortuous, matted branches or, more rarely, sturdy and erect to 30 mm (1 ft) high. Leaves 3-to 4-nate, 4-6 mm long, linear-acuminate, spreading, sulcate, rough and hirsute with rather long petioles. Flowers 1-to 3-nate, rarely 4-nate, terminal; peduncles1.5-2.5 mm long, hirsute; bracts median, ciliate. Sepals 1.5-2 mm long, more or less narrow-ovate acute or sometimes broadened at the base, keel-tipped, hirsute, long-ciliate. Corolla 3 mm long, 3-3.5 mm broad, broad-cyathiform, minutely tubercular, dry, hirsute, blood-red; lobes 0.7 mm long, obtuse. Filaments conspicuously sigmoid; anthers included, 0.4-0.5 mm long, ovate, rounded at the top, scabrid, aristate; pore 3/5 of the cell; awns rough, about equal to the cell in length. Ovary depressed-globose, glabrous; style included; stigma capitellate.
